Perching Birds Overview
This bird is the only North American pioneer from a large genus of similarly colored Old World warblers. It most resembles the Tennessee Warbler, whose range it does not overlap.
Description
4 3/4" (12 cm). Olive green above, with dark line through eye and light greenish-yellow eyebrow. Whitish throat and belly; olive-gray sides; indistinct single wing bar. Pale legs.
Voice
A quick trill, introduced by zick or zick-zick-zick. The call is also zick or zirrup.
Nesting
5-7 pink-speckled white eggs in a domed cup nest placed in grass on the ground.
Habitat
Birch woods, willow thickets.
Range/Migration
Breeds in western and northern Alaska. Also in northern Eurasia.
