It seems as if Boreal birds have really stepped into the spotlight recently. It started with the Audubon report that found many birds are wintering further north as a result of warming temperatures, only reemphasizing the importance of the Boreal. Boreal birds are also the lead subject of Ontario Nature's most recent magazine, which includes an article I wrote about my experiences on the Albany River - a river teeming with bird activity but increasingly threatened by expanded logging:

Also, it seems as if Boreal birds have sparked more of an interest in the US. The Adirondack Explorer, a non-profit news magazine out of upper New York State, recently featured an article about how important many Boreal-breeding birds are to the Adirondacks and the birders who visit. Many of the Boreal-breeding birds in the Adirondacks have become isolated from other populations due to logging in Southern Canada, which fragments breeding grounds and habitat:
