Fall in British Columbia

You might recall a previous post where I put up some great photos from Labrador of the Boreal Forest in the fall--courtesy of Larry Innes from the Canadian Boreal Initiative. I recently recieved some more shots of the Boreal in the fall, these from across the country in the Atlin-Taku region of northern British Columbia--courtesy of Alan Young, another CBI member. These were taken a few weeks ago, so it's proabably a bit chillier now, but they should still show you how gorgeous the Boreal Forest can be during the fall.

The Atlin-Taku region is a very special place. Not only does it have one of the last healthy, intact salmon runs on the West Coast - it's also where a local First Nation, the Taku River Tlingit, is planning a large-scale conservation and land-use plan. If it's successful, it would empower local community members to decide how to use their traditional land as opposed to industry, and ideally keep the area's natural landscape largely intact. It also happens to be quite beautiful!
