I recently recieved these photos of a group of Bohemian Waxwings from my colleage Larry Innes of the Canadian Boreal Initiative. You might recall some photos I posted last month that he took of the Boreal in the fall over Labrador.

The most suprising thing about these photos is that he took them in his backyard, in Labrador! As of 2007, the easternmost documented breeding for this bird was along the James Bay coast in Ontario. They have been spotted a few times during the summer in Quebec and Nova Scotia (south of Labrador), but haven't been officially documented breeding in this eastern part of Canada. Larry said there appeared to be over 200 of them at one point in his backyard.

We're not exactly sure where they bred or where they are heading next, but we do know one thing - it sure was a pleasant surprise to see them!
