After a morning of birding for the camera in Evergreen Cemetary (a favorite local birding locale) in Portland, Maine, Derek and I headed south for New Jersey on Monday. Derek was worried about the team's luck when we didn't have time to stop at his favorite birding spot--Fort Foster in Kittery--on our way out of town. But Derek's worries began to dissipate when the traffic in Connecticut was amazingly light. By the time we hit 287 in NJ still with no traffic we knew it was going to be a good week. In the end we made it to Somersville in record time--only 6 hours and 15 minutes!
And on the way we made some great scouting plans. We will be starting at the Hackensack Meadowlands at midnight if all goes as planned so far. In the morning Derek continues south and begins digging into a serious route thanks to some help from the CT Audubon birding team. I am on my way north this evening and will be setting up the northern route in the morning. Dave will be driving down on Wednesday.
